Ed Bullio was just 12 years old when he started drinking and 13 when he started taking drugs, kickstarting a life largely spent drinking and partying. A few years back, he realized he just couldn't do it anymore. He wanted to be sober, but he had a hard time trying to get the support he needed. A biking enthusiast, Bullio founded a motorcycle club exclusively for sober men called the Last Chance Motorcycle Club. He was the sole member of the club for a while because he really didn't know anyone else in the clean and sober community.
That all changed when he met Tom Ventosi of Quincy, who has been sober since 1986. The two men gradually welcomed more and more men into their club as a way to ride and hang out within an environment of sobriety.
This outlet has gone far beyond just a place where sober men can get the support they need and talk things out. Today, LCMC has become a family of sorts, with chapters in Massachusetts, Maine and Florida. We host events for local riders, such as the annual “Blues Without the Booze” concert. The club also gives back to the community, particularly to veterans and families in need.
According to Bullio, the club has a powerful saying: "Back from the dead." “Before, we were dead because of alcohol or drugs. Now, we’re really alive.”
LCMC also extends support to the families of sober men, promoting a culture of sobriety, brotherhood and support.
The group started out as a way to help other alcoholics and drug users in recovery get more out of life and find a safe space where they belonged. Today, the mission of the group goes beyond just a hobby of riding. It extends to fundraisers, charity drives and events for local riders.
We are always looking for corporate sponsors to help our cause, whether through financial assistance for substance abuse treatment or donations for many causes we support including military veterans.
